Mother's first birthday... Primeiro aniversário de minha mãe...

Photos of the iron fence, gate and balcony of my mother's house taken when she completed her first anniversary, in 11 July 1915. My mother Antonietta was born and lived many years in Itu an historic municipality in the state of São Paulo, in Brazil.

I have many fond memories from my childhood and youth while in vacations at my parent's country house in Itu, an old and historic municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. (Photo taken circa 1955).

Eu tenho adoráveis lembranças de minha infância e juventude, quando passava férias no sítio de meus pais em Itu, um antigo e histórico município situado no Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. (Foto tirada em torno de 1955).

Another photo from my collection of "Old Family Photos." My mother Antonietta is the little girl with the big white ribbon. My grandfather Felício is standing at right, my grandmother Rita is at my mother side, and my great grandmother Albertina is on the chair with my grand uncle Cristovão on her arms. The little boy sitting on the table is my another grand uncle, Antonio. The young lady with a ribbon on the dress is the sister of my grandmother, my grand aunt Bertica. 

Outra foto da minha coleção de "Fotos Antigas da Família". Minha mãe Antonietta é a menininha com um grande laço de fita branco. Meu avô Felício está em pé à direita, minha avó Rita está ao lado da minha mãe e minha bisavó, Albertina, tem no colo um bebezinho, Cristovão, que é meu tio avô. O menininho sentado em cima da mesinha é meu outro tio avô, Antonio. A jovem com um laço escuro no vestido é irmã da minha avó, minha tia avó Bertica.

FAMILY ALBUM... ÁLBUM DE FAMÍLIA...

This is the oldest photo from my family album: my great-grandfather Francesco Antonio Marmo (from my mother side) and his family. He was born on June 29, 1839 in Casalbuono, Salerno Province, Italy. He immigrated to Brazil and married Rosa Maria Berardi Martino, Italian too. The couple had eleven children. My grandfather Felício Marmo is the boy at left, with the stick on his hand. He was born in Viamão, Rio Grande do Sul on August 1º, 1884, married my grandmother Rita Jorge Goulart and had three boys and one girl, my mother Antonietta.

Esta é a mais antiga foto de meu álbum de família: meu bisavô Francesco Antonio Marmo (do lado materno) e sua família. Ele nasceu em 29 de junho de 1839, in Casalbuono, Província de Salerno, Itália e imigrou para o Brasil casando-se com Antonia Berardi Martino, também italiana. O casal teve onze filhos. Meu avô Felício Marmo é o menino que está à esquerda, segurando uma vareta. Ele nasceu em Viamão, Rio Grande do Sul em 1º de agosto de 1884, casou-se com minha avó Rita Jorge Goulart e tiveram três filhos homens e uma menina, minha mãe Antonietta.

OLD SCHOOL... ANTIGA ESCOLA... (1894-1905)

The "Normal School Caetano Campos" founded in March 16, 1846, today named "State School Caetano de Campos", worked in the building attached to the the old Sé Cathedral and was tranfered in 1984 to the building designed by Antonio Francisco de Paula Sousa and Ramos de Azevedo at Republic Square, where currently is installed the Secretary of Education of the State of São Paulo.

A "Escola Normal Caetano de Campos" fundada em 16 de março de 1846, hoje denominada "Escola Estadual Caetano de Campos", funcionava no prédio anexo à antiga Catedral da Sé e foi tranferida para a Praça da República em edifício projetado por Antônio Francisco de Paula Sousa e Ramos de Azevedo e inaugurado em 1894. Atualmente neste edifício está instalada a Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo.

The task from

BlogGincana on August is to mention three cities that were outstanding, remarkable in our lives. For whatever reason of our choices. I choosed three places which were deeply meaningful in my childhood and youth's memories: vacations at the beach and vacations at the country house. I love seeing these old photos and I have lovely memories from that time of my life...
A tarefa proposta pelo BlogGincana no mês de Agosto foi a de citar três cidades que foram marcantes em nossa vida e dizer qual foi a razão mais profunda dessas escolhas. Ao invés de escolher cidades, eu preferi destacar três lugares que foram especiais para mim e que estarão para sempre indeléveis em minhas lembranças da infância e da meninice: a praia onde passávamos férias e os finais de semana e as férias no sítio de meus pais. Me encanta rever estas fotos antigas e tenho adoráveis lembranças daquele tempo...

Unfortunately all these photos haven't a good quality, but all them bring to me lovely memories. Infelizmente as fotos não têm boa qualidade, mas valem pelas lembranças que elas evocam.

OLD FASHIONED FAMILY - FAMÍLIA À MODA ANTIGA

I pick up this photo from my grandfather's album, Felício Marmo. These childrens are offspring of my grandpa's friend and after this picture, the couple had more two babies. Fotos do álbum de meu avô, Felício Marmo. Todas as crianças são filhos de um amigo de meu avô e depois desta foto, o casal teve mais dois filhos.Another photo from my grandfather's album. In the past time women use to have many childrens. Currently our families are getting smaller as women choose to have fewer children. According to IBGE, in Brazil, (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística) the total fertility rate in the Southeast in 1940 was 5.98 and in 2000 was 2.10. A study made by Seade Foundation (Sistema Estadual de Análise de Dados), shows that in 1980, São Paulo's women had an average of 3.4 children. In 1999, 2.4 and in 2008, not more than 2 children per woman. The decrease in the rate of fertility may be linked to several factors: growing urbanization, reduction of child mortality, improvement of educational level, expanding the use of contraceptives, increased participation of women in the labor market and employment instability.

As mulheres de antigamente tinham muitos filhos. Hoje as famílias estão menores porque as mulheres, por diversas razões, optaram por ter menos filhos. Segundo o IBGE (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística) a taxa de fecundidade total na região Sudeste em 1940 era de 5,98 e em 2000, era de 2,10. Um estudo feito pela Fundação Seade (Sistema Estadual de Análise de Dados) em São Paulo, mostra que na década de 1980, as mulheres tinham 3,4 filhos, em média. Em 1999, caiu para 2,4 e, em 2008, não ultrapassava 2 filhos por mulher. O decréscimo da taxa de fecundidade pode estar associado a vários fatores: urbanização crescente, redução da mortalidade infantil, melhoria do nível educacional, ampliação do uso de métodos contraceptivos, maior participação da mulher no mercado de trabalho e instabilidade de emprego.

MY IDOLS: MY GRANDPARENTS

My grandmother Rita and my grandfather Felício were my role models, my idols. They were lovely and adorable person. We was very close and we loved each other so much. Ever since I can remember, both had always been there for me and they were my inspiration. They both were talented teachers, loved each other so much, had four childrens and also they were dedicated parents and grandparents. My grandmother died at the age of 88 and my grandfather at the age of 96. They were truly a remarkable human being. This post is my homage to them.
