WHEAT FIELDS

My friend Jôka, from the blog Avenida Copacabana , when saw my wheat's photos, remembered that painting, that I also love, by the great American realist painter, Andrew Newell Wyeth (born July 12,1917). This painting, named Christina's World is the most famous work by Andrew Wyeth. Painted in 1948 this tempera work is displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It shows a woman named Christina Olson, who had an undiagnosed muscular deterioration that paralyzed her lower body, dragging herself across the ground to pick flowers from her garden. She is the subject of a number of other paintings by Wyeth, along with her brother.

A panorama of beautiful wheat fields and a farm.

  2. The wheat fields are lovely. It reminds me of the line "for amber waves of grain" from the song "America the Beautiful"
    Great photos Sonia!

  5. Wonderful things you are doing with your blog template (I wasn't even able to but my favorites back up)! I love the images, remind me of the kind of wide expansive hills I grew with.

  6. What a fantastic landscape! I really love it! A good idea also to zoom backwards! Two crops per year? Brazil, such an enormous country with so varying landscapes!

Venho sempre aqui. E com a sua licença, indico.
    Grande abraço, e até mais.

  8. These fields should see in person as so many other landscapes, I understand.
It must be a wonderful sight - a golden wheat.
Wheat is growing only in the southern part of Finland because of our weather conditions, rye can manage more to the north and barley grows even in Lapland.
    Happy days to you!

É o seu post me fez viajar.
    Um beijo.

  12. Superb landscapes. I love to see same frame taken wide and zoomed. Countryside is gorgeous as usual.

I'll be away some day and I'll be back in October. Ciao Sonia, take a care !

No me lembro o nome desse artista, mas a imagem j faz parte do inconsciente coletivo.

  15. This is not too close to where you live, is it Sonia? Why does it surprise me to see Wheat Fields...?? These picrures are BEAUTIFUL, as always, Sonia....Again, I think you live in such a beautiful country with many varied places and terrains....The contrast of Sao Paolo to these wheat fields says it all, doesn't it? Lovely, my dear, just lovely!

  16. Sincere thanks to you and your friend for adding this fantastic painting! I had seen it - and some other Wyeth paintings -, but did not realise the story behind this one! It makes it even more fascinating! He painted a lot of Olsons (no relatives, as far as I know) and Ericksons... Have a nice weekend, Sonia!

  17. Sonia, o Joka tem razão, tem tudo a ver. Ficou perfeita a postagem agora!
    Parabéns a ambos!

    Bom domingo.
    Até mais

Your panoramic views are truly spectacular. :-)

  29. And the wheat fields remind me of the Dakotas and Nebraska in our country. There is a stark beauty about the vast expanse and the distant horizon. Wyatt's painting always makes me catch my breath since it reminds of my long-ago, deceased mother who was badly crippled with rheumatoid arthritis. It's a beautiful painting of a beautiful woman.

    Beijo, menina

  35. How beautiful are your fields of grain. You must have had a wonder drive to Avare.

Sonia, thanks for visiting Mama and Me from PDX. The earthquake did no damage, and according to the experts, it does not mean we're in for a run of tremors. Hooray!

  37. Amazing comparison.

Maybe you should sit on the wheat field and have someone take a photo of you posing like the painting. :-)

  38. Sonia: Thank you for visiting my little blog here in Canada, and thank you also for your kind words about our Wendydog. She was a lovely creature, so calm and obedient and loving, and above all, such a fun compaion. We will all miss her, but the people who miss her the most are my son and wife, as Wendy lived at their house for the past 6 years. She will always be remembered with love.
Beautiful wheat field photographs. Such colour and distance and persepctive, lovely.

  39. The field you showed looked very much like the field Wyeth painted. But I was in the area where he painted his picture, in Maine USA. There are lovely fields all over the world, aren't there!

  40. I love to see photos of your beautiful country Sonia. What a way to see the world! The wheat fields are so vast and serene.

  45. I too was always intrigued by that painting, and had a print of it framed and hung on the living room wall for many years. It can be interpreted differently by different people - I always thought it expressed desolation and loneliness.

I must say the colors in your digital file are much better than the ones in my print!
