My friend Jôka, from the blog Avenida Copacabana , when saw my wheat's photos, remembered that painting, that I also love, by the great American realist painter, Andrew Newell Wyeth (born July 12,1917). This painting, named Christina's World is the most famous work by Andrew Wyeth. Painted in 1948 this tempera work is displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It shows a woman named Christina Olson, who had an undiagnosed muscular deterioration that paralyzed her lower body, dragging herself across the ground to pick flowers from her garden. She is the subject of a number of other paintings by Wyeth, along with her brother.

I can never wait to see what new series of photos you are going to do. I love the wheat fields...just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe wheat fields are lovely. It reminds me of the line "for amber waves of grain" from the song "America the Beautiful"
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Sonia!
xo
What a gorgeous land! That wheat field must be spectacular at sunset.
ReplyDeleteQuando vêm me visitar? ;D
Very intersting approach to show a subject, Sonya. Looking through this pictures was like reading a book, couln't wait to flip to the next page.
ReplyDeleteLove your vistas of wheat!
ReplyDeleteWonderful things you are doing with your blog template (I wasn't even able to but my favorites back up)! I love the images, remind me of the kind of wide expansive hills I grew with.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic landscape! I really love it! A good idea also to zoom backwards! Two crops per year? Brazil, such an enormous country with so varying landscapes!
Venho sempre aqui. E com a sua licença, indico.
ReplyDeleteGrande abraço, e até mais.
These fields should see in person as so many other landscapes, I understand.
ReplyDeleteIt must be a wonderful sight - a golden wheat.
Wheat is growing only in the southern part of Finland because of our weather conditions, rye can manage more to the north and barley grows even in Lapland.
Happy days to you!
http://vileardi.blogspot.com/
Beijos!
Simple beauty is sometimes the very best.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Connie
É o seu post me fez viajar.
Um beijo.
Superb landscapes. I love to see same frame taken wide and zoomed. Countryside is gorgeous as usual.
ReplyDeleteI'll be away some day and I'll be back in October. Ciao Sonia, take a care !
ReplyDeleteNo me lembro o nome desse artista, mas a imagem j faz parte do inconsciente coletivo.
Bjs
Jka
What beautiful wide blue skies. Thankyou s.
ReplyDeleteThis is not too close to where you live, is it Sonia? Why does it surprise me to see Wheat Fields...?? These picrures are BEAUTIFUL, as always, Sonia....Again, I think you live in such a beautiful country with many varied places and terrains....The contrast of Sao Paolo to these wheat fields says it all, doesn't it? Lovely, my dear, just lovely!
ReplyDeleteSincere thanks to you and your friend for adding this fantastic painting! I had seen it - and some other Wyeth paintings -, but did not realise the story behind this one! It makes it even more fascinating! He painted a lot of Olsons (no relatives, as far as I know) and Ericksons... Have a nice weekend, Sonia!
ReplyDeleteSonia, o Joka tem razão, tem tudo a ver. Ficou perfeita a postagem agora!
ReplyDeleteParabéns a ambos!
Bjs
Oh yes indeed, Sonia. I know that painting very well, and in fact, I have seen it in MOMA.....It is perfect for this post, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know, my dear.
amazing sonia!
ReplyDeletei have seen andrew's work online..and truly, your pics series recall the flavor of that painting...wheat fields have their own beauty in all seasons..
thanks for sharing..:)
ReplyDeleteThe wheat fields are beautiful and you know how to show them. You always have an eye-pleasing post, Sonia!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Just beautiful Sonia!!
ReplyDeleteHow impressive painting with that story!
ReplyDeleteThank you sharing it, Sonia!
And happy weekend to you!
More beautiful photos I am catching up on blogs after my Holiday in Canada.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Wyeth country ... I love all three Wyeth's paintings and I love your photos. Beautiful country.
ReplyDeleteYour topics for posts are just intriquing! I've heard you can hear the wheat talk to you in the breeze... it's such a different beauty.
This is a really eerie coincidence!
ReplyDeleteYour panoramic views are truly spectacular. :-)
And the wheat fields remind me of the Dakotas and Nebraska in our country. There is a stark beauty about the vast expanse and the distant horizon. Wyatt's painting always makes me catch my breath since it reminds of my long-ago, deceased mother who was badly crippled with rheumatoid arthritis. It's a beautiful painting of a beautiful woman.
ReplyDeleteBjs
Wonderful landscape, Sonia
ReplyDeleteWe had a huge Andrew Wyeth exhibition at the High Museum of Art here in Atlanta not long ago. What a feast for our senses it was!
How beautiful are your fields of grain. You must have had a wonder drive to Avare.
ReplyDeleteSonia, thanks for visiting Mama and Me from PDX. The earthquake did no damage, and according to the experts, it does not mean we're in for a run of tremors. Hooray!
What a sky!
ReplyDeleteAmazing comparison.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should sit on the wheat field and have someone take a photo of you posing like the painting. :-)
Sonia: Thank you for visiting my little blog here in Canada, and thank you also for your kind words about our Wendydog. She was a lovely creature, so calm and obedient and loving, and above all, such a fun compaion. We will all miss her, but the people who miss her the most are my son and wife, as Wendy lived at their house for the past 6 years. She will always be remembered with love.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful wheat field photographs. Such colour and distance and persepctive, lovely.
The field you showed looked very much like the field Wyeth painted. But I was in the area where he painted his picture, in Maine USA. There are lovely fields all over the world, aren't there!
ReplyDeleteI love to see photos of your beautiful country Sonia. What a way to see the world! The wheat fields are so vast and serene.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed the photos of Sao Paulo. What an interesting and attractive city it is.
The sandles with socks pics made me laugh :) That's a fun idea.
Yes, we had a great time visiting the kids :)
Hi Sonia, oh yes i have that painting, image i mean, not the original, can't afford, very beautiful indeed.
ReplyDeleteLovely landscape as usual Sonia.
Its a feeling of freedom.
I love the paintings of Wyeth, especially the Christina one.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely photos! I love wheat fields!
Beautiful beyond words!! thanks for visiting via Naomi's blog :)

I too was always intrigued by that painting, and had a print of it framed and hung on the living room wall for many years. It can be interpreted differently by different people - I always thought it expressed desolation and loneliness.
ReplyDeleteI must say the colors in your digital file are much better than the ones in my print!
