EARTH AS ART – A LANDSAT PERSPECTIVE (LIBRARY OF CONGRESS EXHIBITION)

West Fjords

Lena Delta, Asia

Malaspina Glacier

Araca River

Namib Desert

Volga River Delta

Lambert Glacier, Antarctica

Guinea

Florida Everglades

Ganges, River Delta

First of all, as you can see, I put more color on my Blog, with the gentle tutorial by Mary, from "A Breath of Air". I would share with you all these beautiful images from Earth and I wish you all enjoy them!

"A series of Landsat satellites have imaged the Earth's surface for nearly thirty years, providing data for applications in business, science, education, government, and national security. The Landsat satellite currently in orbit is Landsat 7. The U.S. Geological Survey's Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center in South Dakota is the primary receiving station for Landsat 7 data, and it distributes these data to researchers around the world."

"This exhibition showcases Landsat 7 images, from the collection of Landsat photographs held in the Geography and Map Division, which have been selected for aesthetic rather than scientific value. These images are actual pictures of the Earth, created by printing visible and infrared data in colors visible to the human eye. Band combinations and colors were chosen to optimize their dramatic appearance."

(This exhibit is no longer on display at the Library of Congress.)

Gorgeous! The earth from a far looks very much like parts of the human body. Rivers look like vains bringing lifes blood to the earth. Those pictures leave me feeling like we are all a connected scheme.
Very interesting and beautiful

Hi Sonia. These are very lovely. They do look like paintings in a way. Very interesting to look at pictures in that perspective. I think the West Fjords was my favorite!

Hi Sonia, These are true works of art showing the beauty of our earth. I'm always fascinated by the earth from above. I collect books of aerial photography - anything from photos from a one-person ultra-lite to photography from light planes to satellite images. I didn't know about this exhibit, and thank you for introducing me to these remarkable images.
