TREES TRUNKS

Delicate flower on the trunk (in my neighborhood)

Palm tree ( in my garden) I think this species is Latania sp. (Aracaceae) Does anybody know the correct name?

Cajeput (Melaleuca leucadendron) The trunk is so soft to the touch, like the softest of leathers or cork. ( in my neighbor's garden)

"Cipó" around this big tree (at street in Enseada Azul). "Cipó" is how we call that kind of long roots which lives suspended on the trees. Did you remember Tarzan sliding on trees? Tarzan loves to swing with that...

Pinus Elliotis (in my neighborhood)

  8. Melaleucas - I knew it as soon as I scrolled down the page. Melaleucas are often used as street trees in Australia, our neighborhood is filled with a much smaller variety than the one you show in your photo. And it's so soft to the touch, like the softest of leathers!
When I first arrived in Australia in 1974, you used to see "paintings" on sheets of this kind of bark for sale in the big department stores. Bits of twigs, leaves and other parts of the tree would be arranged and fixed onto the sheet of bark to form pictures of the Australian countryside. The one I have shows a rustic cottage under a tree with some hills in the background. I'm so glad I bought one because I haven't seen them for many years.

  20. What great trees!

When I was a girl living in Honduras, my friend had a palm tree in her backyard. I miss the tropics--trees here in the North East of the US can be so boring. Except for sycamores and ginkos...

  21. Sonia-- It is so great to see the trees there, that you see. Your photographs are lovely. The trees look magnificent, so huge and old.

  22. Cool tree photos, Sonia!! And can I tell you, I really wish I were in Brazil right now, instead of cold, snowy Chicago.

  23. Sonia, do those orchids grow on the tree like that? I have seen it in Hawaii, but I didn't know they did it in Brazil too.

Also, I thought that meleleucca only grew in Australia....live and learn! LOL
