"The family Accipitridae encompasses many of the diurnal birds of prey, including the familiar hawks and eagles. It is one of the largest avian families, and the largest family in the order Falconiformes.
A great deal of diversity exists among the members of the Accipitridae. Members of this family span the globe, living in habitats as wide ranging as tundra, alpine meadows and rainforests. They eat fish, mammals, birds, bats, invertebrates, carrion and some fruit. They nest on cliffs, in trees or sometimes on the ground and lay between one and nine eggs. Physical size is also quite variable within this group, with wingspans ranging from 50 cm to 3 m.
Geographic Range: Accipitrids are found world wide. They live on every continent except Antarctica, and on most oceanic islands. They inhabit every major habitat type except the northernmost arctic tundra and the driest deserts.
You can listen the sound of Roadside Hawk, Buteo magnirostris and the sounds of anothers Hawks and Eagles .

Wow, Sonia, awesome bird shots all! It's unusual to find a hawk standing on the road like that! The Ibis shots are mind-blowing; I've never seen anything like that, and imagine having them perched on your roof! I especially like the two owls on the thatched roof, though, and I was wondering if you have a graphics program if you might try zooming in closer on the owls and then cropping the picture so it looks more like a close-up. Can you do something like that? It would be nice to see them a bit larger, but such a nice shot the way it is. :)
ReplyDeleteSonia-- Those are great shots. I love the hawk in flight. The coloring on that hawk is so different from the hawks we have here in the northwest. It is really enlightening to see the regional diversity. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt is really thrilling to be introduced to all these 'new' to me birds, and know that you and your husband see all these beautiful creatures on a daily basis....Brazil, from this point of view, is most beautiful...I know it is otherwise, too, from photographs, but your first hand pictures and descriptions of the things of daily life around you, makes Brazil come alive in a new way, for me...I am still thinking about the beautiful trees in your Orchard...Thank You Sonia for expanding my world in such a lovely detailed way....
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! I like the contrast between the pictures too. In the first picture the grass (or whatever it is) is so green and in the second one it's brown.
ReplyDeleteThe hawk brings fear to the little critters it is after!
Love it! It is ironic because today coming out of the grocery store there was a little hawk on the outside group of carts!? I'm busy looking it up! I LOVE hawks...your posting is awesome!
ReplyDeleteOur countries are quite different, aren`t they :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a thrill to capture a photo of the hawk in flight. The sound your "Roadside Hawk" makes is different to what I hear from the Red-tailed Hawks I have where I live. I find birds fascinating & you have added another bird for me to discover. Thank you, Sonia!
ReplyDeleteC'est une très bonne idée de montrer ces oiseaux !
ReplyDeleteMerci pour la musique de leur chant !
It is a very good idea to show these birds!
Thank you for the music for their song
I came home and my computer was screeching. Thanks for the email. Great sounds. I need to do the kookabura bird here in Tassie. Excellent pictures.
ReplyDeleteWow...That is awesome. I absolutely love those shots of the birds.
ReplyDeleteA hawk standing as still as a log is a rarity to capture.
Yes, wonderful photos. Your husband is a talented photographer, Sonia! As I've said before, visiting your blog is the next best thing to actually travelling to Brazil ....
ReplyDeleteSonia,
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are great. I love seeing pictures from far away places.
I should take more nature pictures in Indiana. We have deer, opossum, rabbits, and even coyotes. I just seem to never have my camera with me when one appears.
Olá Sonia,
ReplyDeleteFriday a tarde, 28 April 2006 I saw 2 Gaviãos circling in the sky here in Arapongas, PR. Wow, I adore birds of prey. Seen many eagles in Sweden, ospreys and hawks in Florida and thanks to your webpossoting I learned the Latin/English name for this bird. Regards, Harvey
