ReplyDeleteWe used to named the tree of my fence as "Cedar". But as I don't know so much about botany, I have doubt then I Googled and I saw that my fence is a conifer, from cypress family, the Cupressaceae. The cypress family (order Pinales), includes 27–30 genera, with 133 species of evergreen ornamental and timber shrubs and trees, and they are distributed throughout the world. The family includes the junipers and redwoods. Cupressaceae is the most widely distributed conifer family, with a near-global range in all continents except for Antarctica.

ReplyDeleteI'm a bit surprised that any conifer would grow in the tropics, so now I'm learning something new. The conifers in your photographs are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo temperate is your part of Brazil -- in some ways it reminds me of central California, as I look at your photographs.
Cupressaceae -- in California, they're very common, in one subfamily or another: coast redwoods in the fog belt along the coast, giant sequoias in the Sierras Nevada, incense-cedars in the forests around 1,000 meters elevation, and Monterey cypresses half an hour from where I lived.
Perhaps yours is of the genus Araucaria.

ReplyDeleteFlora is so pretty. Do you plan to get another dog? I have been heartbroken from the loss of a pet over the years. I like to put a morning period between me and the lost one. I usually only have one cat at a time. A siamese because they are very social. My favorite was my first. Her name was Tess. Twyla, my latest has gotten under my skin. She is so much fun and so silly.
The team at Lye Farm at Dairy NZ made me extremely welcome, I have managed to get be to get involved with various amounts of things. I have fed cows, cut grass for analysis, carried out tiller densities, and read....Softfall NSW
