AMUSEMENT PARK.... PARQUE DE DIVERSÕES...

These photos of a small Amusement Park were taken by my husband in a cold evening at Holambra's Fields, the village near our house. This typical country park just opened that day and it was almost empty... Did you see the dog layed in front of the shooting ranges? 

Estas fotos de um pequeno Parque de Diversões foram clicadas pelo meu marido quase ao anoitecer em Campos de Holambra, cidadezinha perto de casa. Este típico parque de diversões do interior estava sendo inaugurado naquela noite e ainda estava praticamente vazio... Você percebeu um cachorro deitado à frente da barraca do tiro ao alvo?

David Hockney is a British painter, draftsman, printmaker, photographer, and stage designer. Hockney was born in Bradford, England, on 9 July 1937, the son of Kenneth and Laura Hockney and the fourth of five children . He is based in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire and Kensington, London. Hockney maintains two residences in California, where he lived on and off for over 30 years. Hockney is an important contributor to the Pop art movement of the 1960s, he is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century.

David Hockney é um pintor, artista, cenógrafo, fotógrafo e gravador britânico. Hockney nasceu em Bradford, Inglaterra, em 9 de julho de 1937, filho de Kenneth e Laura Hockney. Hockney reside em Bridlington, Yorkshire East Riding e Kensington, Londres, mas mantém duas residências na Califórnia, onde viveu durante mais de 30 anos. Hockney é um importante expoente da Pop art, movimento da década de 1960, sendo considerado um dos mais influentes artistas britânicos do século 20.

AN OLD MAN

At the noisy end of the café, head bent
over the table, an old man sits alone,
a newspaper in front of him.

And in the miserable banality of old age
he thinks how little he enjoyed the years
when he had strength, eloquence, and looks.

He knows he’s aged a lot: he sees it, feels it.
Yet it seems he was young just yesterday.
So brief an interval, so very brief.

And he thinks of Prudence, how it fooled him,
how he always believed—what madness—
that cheat who said: “Tomorrow. You have plenty of time.”

He remembers impulses bridled, the joy
he sacrificed. Every chance he lost
now mocks his senseless caution.

But so much thinking, so much remembering
makes the old man dizzy. He falls asleep,
his head resting on the café table.

Constantine P. Cavafy, (29 April 1863 – 29 April 1933 / Alexandria, Egypt) also known as Konstantin or Konstantinos Petrou Kavafis, or Kavaphes was a renowned Greek poet who lived in Alexandria and worked as a journalist and civil servant. He published 154 poems; dozens more remained incomplete or in sketch form. His most important poetry was written after his fortieth birthday. You can read his poems on his site Here 

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:
"I am from Constantinople by descent, but I was born in Alexandria—at a house on Seriph Street; I left very young, and spent much of my childhood in England. Subsequently I visited this country as an adult, but for a short period of time. I have also lived in France. During my adolescence I lived over two years in Constantinople. It has been many years since I last visited Greece. My last employment was as a clerk at a government office under the Ministry of Public Works of Egypt. I know English, French, and a little Italian.”

Constantine Cavafi is considered one of the finest European and modern Greek poets. His poetry is taught at schools in mainland Greece and Cyprus, and across universities around the world. E.M. Forster knew him personally and wrote a memoir of him, contained in his book "Alexandria". Forster, Arnold Toynbee, and T.S. Eliot were among the earliest promoters of Cavafy in the English-speaking world before the Second World War. In 1966, David Hockney made a series of prints to illustrate a selection of Cavafy’s poems, including In the dull village.

UM VELHO
de Constantine P. Cavafy

No meio do café ruidoso, sem ninguém,
por companhia, está sentado um velho. Tem
à frente um jornal e se inclina sobre a mesa.

Imerso na velhice aviltada e sombria,
pensa quão pouco desfrutou as alegrias
dos anos de vigor, eloqüência, beleza.

Sabe que envelheceu bastante. Vê, conhece.
No entanto, o seu tempo de moço lhe parece
ser ainda ontem: faz tão pouco, faz tão pouco...

Medita no quanto a Prudência dele rira;
em como acreditara sempre na mentira
do “Deixa para amanhã. Há tempo.” Que louco!

Pensa nos ímpetos que teve de conter,
nas alegrias frustras por seu tolo saber,
que cada ocasião perdida agora escarnece.

Porém, tanto pensar, tanta recordação,
põem o velho confuso, e sobre a mesa, então,
daquele café, debruçado, ele adormece.

IN MY GARDEN TODAY... HOJE EM MEU JARDIM...

 

Love orchids and I have many of them in my garden, but I don't know what species they are... The Orchidaceae are a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants with colorful and fragrant blooms, commonly known as the orchid family.  There are more than 25,000 verified, natural orchid varieties in the world, with hundreds of new species being discovered annually and many hybrid orchids, which are crossbreeds of two or more orchids. While orchids are best known for being tropical plants, species of this mysterious flower have been found in every country of the world except Antarctica. These numbers make orchids the largest plant family, according to the American Orchid Society. (Via) 

Gosto muito de orquideas e tenho muitas delas em meu jardim, mas não tenho idéia de que espécie elas são... Orquídeas são todas as plantas que compõem a família Orchidaceae, pertencente à ordem Asparagales, uma das maiores famílias de plantas existentes. Apresentam muitíssimas e variadas formas, cores e tamanhos e existem em todos os continentes, exceto na Antártida, predominando nas áreas tropicais.  No mundo todo há mais de 25 mil espécies de orquídeas encontradas diretamente na natureza e inúmeras sendo descobertas anualmente, além de criadas  em laboratório, a partir do cruzamento de espécies diferentes. O Brasil é um dos países mais ricos nesse tipo de planta. (Via)






This is Anthurium andraeanum growing among many Agave Attenuata. Anthurium is a large genus of about 600–800 (possibly 1,000) species of flowering plants, belonging to the Araceae family. Anthurium can also be called "flamingo flower" or "boy flower", both referring to the structure of the spathe and spadix.The Anthurium andraeanum was discovered in 1876 in Colombia, by Édouard François André a French horticulturalist and landscape designer of the late 19th century (1840-1911).

Este é um Anthurium andraeanum que cresceu entre muitas Agave Attenuata. O Anthurium é gênero botânico com cerca de 600-800 (possivelmente 1.000) espécies, pertencente à família Araceae. O Anthurium andraeanum foi descoberto em 1876 na Colômbia, por Édouard François André, um horticultor e paisagista francês nascido no século 19 (1840-1911).

This plant named "Monstera deliciosa", is a creeping vine native to Mexico and Panama. Common name is Monstera, Tarovine and Swiss Cheese Plant. This member of the Arum family is an epiphyte with aerial roots, able to grow up to 20 m high with large, leathery, glossy, heart-shaped leaves.

Esta folhagem é chamada de "Costela-de-Adão" , cujo nome científico é "Monstera deliciosa" e pertence à família das aráceas, nativa do México e Panamá, mundialmente cultivada como folhagem ornamental pelas belas e peculiares folhas grandes, cordiformes, penatífidas e perfuradas.
