Reading the article Walking as Art – Footwear, I was introduced to this amazing Bata Shoe Museum, in Toronto, founded in 1995 by Sonja Bata. Shoes hold the key to human identity, wrote Sonja Bata. All those photos, except the tricycle's photo, were found through this article. So I hope you enjoy this post.

Update: A friend of mine, Eduardo Penteado Lunardelli, post on his great and always up to date blog, Varal de Idéias (Clothesline of Idea) a photo of the fashionable shoe Crocs. Worth a visit to see it!
Sonia, que bela aula de história. Os sapatos artísticos eu nunca tinha visto. Impressionou-me o modelo de 1800, como elas andavam com tal salto, curvatura e bico tão fino? :-) Boa Páscoa!!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post, Sonia. I've known about the shoe museum in Toronto but haven't made it there yet, a sad admission from a shoe lover!
ReplyDeletelove love love the tricycle shoe!!
ReplyDeleteHey Sonia, I laughed out loud at some of these shoes! The evolution of the shoe was interesting. Some of those high heels would never suit me - I'd wind up face flat on the street with my broken teeth scattered all around me!
ReplyDeleteI loved the tricycle shoe!! That would sure get some attention!!!
ReplyDeleteI have loved shoes since I was about six years old, Sonia. The one I like is the silver ankle strap heel, although I could never wear that now....LOL
ReplyDeleteOh S, thankyou for this. Shouts of laughter over the bike shoe.
ReplyDeleteHi Sonia, thanks for stopping by holtieshouse and your good wishes.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing collection of shoes! Some look downright diabolical. The high heels certainly felt like that, back in the early 60s when I wore them. Thank heavens the fashion changed after that, but I'm still astonished to see that young women these days have gone back to these torture devices!
ReplyDeleteHello Sonia,
ReplyDeletehow interesting your post about the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto.
Today, I had lunch in the City not far from the Museum.
It is an amazing place...
Wish you a Happy Easter,
Gisela

Have a VERY VERY HAPPY EASTER, Dear Sonia...
Now that would be the perfect display for me. I love SHOES!
ReplyDeleteBoah, this are the right pictures for me. I love shoes!!
ReplyDeleteO fetiche leva algumas mulheres a deformarem os pés para agradarem aos homens. Ficam aleijadas para seduzir. Sado-masoquismo e erotismo da submissão.
ReplyDeleteÉ exatamente o contrário do feminismo.
Prefiro mulheres amordaçadas.
Tem gosto pra tudo, né ?!
:D
ReplyDeleteHi Sonia,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun collection of shoes. Wish I could wear some of those styles, but not anymore :)
((hugs))
Hello Sonia,
ReplyDeleteI have nominated you for a Thinking Bloggers Award...
cheers Gisela
