  1. Sonia - Is this the drive home from Sao Paulo? How calm and pastoral. Since I'm very fond of distant rural landscapes, I particularly like the last two photos. What kind of trees are growing in this area? (I had the Solfeggietto playing as I looked at these - a lovely accompaniment! Thank you for beautiful music and photos.)

  2. Oh Sonia...It is soooo very beautiful there! And that you see this every day..day in and day out...How peaceful and how gorgeous these views of the landscpae are, my dear...Just seeing one of these views has got to be such a gift...
Thank You for sharing these lovely lobely landscapes.

  3. These are quite beautiful, Sonia. It surprises me how much some of these photos remind me of central California on a beautiful spring day. You are very lucky to have such a view when you go home.

  4. What strikes me it the sky. The horizon seem particularly far away. When I was in Barzil we stayed close to the coast with the exception being Manaus. I guess I just asummed the rest of Brazil was densly forested unless it was a football field. Bazilians love their football.

  5. How beautiful your country is, Sonia. You are lucky to be able to see that everyday.

  6. Thank you Pam, Naomi, Rexroth's Daughter, Wendy and Kenju for your visiting and nice comment.
This road is a rural road which drives to São Paulo’s highway.
These landscapes that you see is the cerrado’s landscape. Cerrado is the regional name given to the Brazilian savannas. Around 85% of the great plateau which occupies Central Brazil was originally dominated by the "cerrado" landscape. The "cerrado" trees are very peculiar, with twisted trunks, covered by a thick bark, and leaves which are usually broad and rigid. The great habitat variability in the different types of "cerrado" supports an enormous diversity of plant and animals species.

  7. Sonia,
I see central Victorian landscape in some of these photos. But I am wondering about the small "bushes" in some of the photos. If I saw that sort of the thing in the distance here, I would immediately suspect a noxious weed. For example, thistles grow very well here, too well in fact, and instead of being admired for their pretty flowers in their native Scotland, here they can be quite a nuisance. Hopefully what I'm seeing in your photos is something much more pleasant!

  11. I agree with Val, in that some of the photos are reminiscent of Victorian countryside, although many of the trees are so very different to what we have here.
You live in a very beautiful country. Thank you for sharing the photos. It is always a pleasure to come over and visit.
    Take care, Meow

  12. Its a beautiful drive you have Sonia. It is interesting how we all see things that remind us of home in theese photos. The first picture looks so typically English.

  15. The second to the last picture could be right here, except for the type of trees. Our hills start as rolling countryside, then escalate to moutaneous with dense forests. Your pictures are very beautiful and I want to thank you for stopping into to visit me...please come again.

You live in a very peaceful place.

  18. Very beautiful photos, Sonia, and how wonderful that the place where you live has not been developed too much and there is still plenty of wide open space and lovely views. You are lucky indeed!

  30. What? No pictures of ant hills the size of a small child? Lovely pictures, Sonia. It reminds me of the drive from Rio to Brasilia that I took with my family in 1995.

  31. Que linda vista! Parece quase Alentejano, um pouco. (And apologies for my extremely rusty Portuguese!)

  32. Oi tudo bem Sonia? Thank you so much for writing me a message on my blog (and for advising me that the Brazil Diary date links don't function!). I agree with you - the blogosphere is a really amazing place!

I love these photographs! Brazil is so beautiful and I miss it so much. Now I understand the meaning of "saudade". Tenho muitas saudades do Brasil.

Right now I am trying to plan my second trip to Brazil (via El Camino Santiago in Spain and a road trip from San Francisco to Cancún!). There are so many beautiful places in Brazil that it's difficult to make a decision as to where I should lay down my hat for a while!

  35. What a beautiful place, calm and peaceful with its gentle, rolling hills and distant views. One of the things I love about reading blogs is the ability to see more of the world and to have a glimpse of other bloggers' lives, as you have allowed us to do here. Thank you Sonia.

  36. Sonia - such lovely scenery. Do those beautifully green fields ever get dry and brown (as they are in Australia at the moment due to lack of rain)? The second last photo could in fact be in many countries, even England. Are some of the trees eucalypts - they look like it?

  37. Hi Sonia
It is really beautiful country side and yes it does remind me of parts of South Africa.
This is an amazing country when it comes to biodiversity. One minute you can be in semi desert and the next in lush forests.
