Krokalia is a decorative mosaic of black and white pebbles that are used in patterns both inside and outside the houses, tradicional on Rhodes, Greece. Unique to the island of Rhodes, these beautiful pebble mosaics adorn much of the village of Lindos. Mainly constructed of black and white pebbles, though red is sometimes seen, this art form also serves a practical purpose by cooling surface temperatures when wet with water.

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome house, I love it! Everything where I live is bland, there's so little real style here.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are terrific; how I would love to visit and stay awhile. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLooking at all these BEAUTIFUL floors---I cannot imagine how painstaking it must be to do this particular kind of tile work....it certainly is magnificent! Great Pictures, Sonia..I've never been to Greece, but this particular area and this house are both so very gorgeous! You have such an Artistic Eye, my dear....You always find the most wonderful artistic and lucious things to share with us.
ReplyDeleteSonia how stunning! Pebble mosaic is an art form, the pictures show the incredible talent so well.
ReplyDeleteThe header photo made me want to get on a plane and head over there!!
Beautiful, thank you for sharing.

That is absolutely, incredibly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI see this type of flooring in my future! Somewhere! Somehow!
A nice massage for bare feet too.
And isn't Krokalia a marvelous word to say?
That's so unique! I've never seen flooring like that.
ReplyDeleteThe header is stunning!
The concept reminds me of the Chinese patio at the Huntington. So beautiful and utilitarian. Plus walking on the floor gives one great foot rub.
ReplyDeleteI love all the rooms you feature, but my favorite is the first -- because I can picture myself sitting there.
What a lovely home! And so interesting to learn about Krokalia. Wonderful mosaics!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful though the whole house with such a concept would perhaps be too much!
ReplyDeleteCara Sonia,
ReplyDeleteque bela demonstração de como se podem obter resultados esteticamente equilibrados usando os materias mais singelos.
Abraço
Is this many houses, or just one, Sonia? I would like to live in any of them! This is my favourite look for a home. A little old and worn, not too big, rustic, simple and sunny.
ReplyDeleteHope you're well. Sorry I haven't been visiting but have been BUSY! Leave in a week for NZ, so much more to do LOL. Always like that, no matter how well I try to plan ;)
Muitos beijos xxx
Oi, Sônia!!
ReplyDeleteInusitado para mim o uso das pedrinhas dentro de casa, ainda mais no quarto! Mas a maneira que eles fizeram, ficou super delicado e nada rústico!
Obrigada pelas imagens encantadoras!
Boa semana!!
Beijus,
love to live there. btw, i am incredibly loving the header picture. is that greece too, one of the islands?
ReplyDeleteSoothing, warm photos
ReplyDeleteI never knew there was a name to this kind of work or a location for which it's been heralded. Very interesting and such strange timing. There is a house near me in a rich section, that has a large heart embedded by way of this style. I told my husband, if we ever remove the asphalt on our driveway, I'd like to replace it with something like this.
ReplyDeleteOh my, this home is stunning! Or is it homes? I was in Crete many years ago. I didn't see gorgeous homes like this, but the glimpse of the countryside tickles my memory. So beautiful. I wish I'd visited Rhodes as well. The mosaic floors are incredible. I thought of PA, knowing she would appreciate them, so I'm glad she stopped by to see them.
