As soon as I saw that first painting---done with all the Polaroid's---I remember seeing it in a Stunning and Amazing show, here in Los Angeles at The L.A. County Museum Of Art. The entire show blew me away and my view of Hockney's Talent grew 1000 fold.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like seeing a lot an Artists work, all together in one place, to enlighten one's understanding of all he or she has created.
I just LOVE his Dog Paintings! I mean, I LOVE THEM!!!!
What a wonderful thing to share with all of us, my dear Sonia---Only you would think of this lovely lovely tribute to these amazing paintings---Hockney's love of his dogs---Particularly darling Stanley shows in every brush stroke....! I love Pear Blossom Highway. And guess I knew very little about Hockney because I didn't know about the doxies. EB White, incidentally, was also a doxie man.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize he'd painted so many! The thing I love about his pool pictures is that they get across a place, a season, and an era in a deceptively simple painting.
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures, he's talented. My dog loves going for drives too!
ReplyDeleteHi there. Thank you for your kind comment on my blog. And Yes, I love this man!! He is a BRILLIANT artist and thinker. Hockney Forever!!
ReplyDeleteFirst time I'm seeing his artwork. Thank you! I like it a lot!
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you a funny and not so funny story. A close friend's ex wife earned a substantial part of her living making the canvas' for Hockney (when he lived in Santa Monica). She did all of these canvases. When those dogs died, Hockney went through a deep depression and she nearly lost her shirt because he quit painting. There went the income she had grown to depend on.
ReplyDeleteHere are two links to my blog. The first one is of a failed utopia on the Pear Blossom highway.
ReplyDeleteThe second public art project I did in a community off the Pearblossum highway in the middle of the Antelope Valley
Hockney was one of my art director's favourite artists and he had some of his work (not originals of course) in our shared office. Brings back memories. I LOVE your masthead! Have a great week, Sonia. Muitos beijos! X
ReplyDeleteWonderful feature on David Hockney!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your new masthead, too!

ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful the wall with so many dogs!

Sonia, it's been far too long since I've visited. For a second I got disoriented, thinking I'd arrived at the wrong blog (it looked so different with the new masthead), but then it all made sense. Of course you would pay tribute to a brilliant artist and dog lover. The photos are wonderful as are Hockney's paintings of his pups. This post is such a delightful surprise. I love it.
ReplyDeletei adore this post (it makes me happy :)
ReplyDeleteThank You so much for this wonderful and very delightful post.
ReplyDeleteDaughter has a long haired Dachshund and I don't know if she has ever seen his paintings of them.
I am not sure if I show her the first photo if she won't do that herself. She adores her Waldie !
Your photo is so lovely with your sweet dog.
cheers, parsnip
