And the world's not end... E o mundo não se acabou...

Carmen Miranda,(Marco de Canaveses, 9 February 1909 – Los Angeles, 5 August 1955) was a Portuguese-born Brazilian samba singer, dancer, Broadway actress, and film star who was popular in the 1940s and 1950s. After establishing a successful singing and acting career in her native Brazil, Lee Shubert signed Miranda and her band to a contract in 1939. She made her American stage debut in July 1939, and later moved to Hollywood to pursue a film career. Nicknamed "The Brazilian Bombshell", Miranda is noted for her signature fruit hat outfit she wore in the 1943 movie The Gang's All Here. By 1945, she was the highest paid woman in the United States. Miranda made a total of fourteen Hollywood films between 1940 and 1953. Though hailed as a talented performer, her popularity waned by the end of World War II. She later grew to resent the stereotypical "Brazilian Bombshell" image she cultivated and attempted to break free of it with limited success. On 4 August 1955, Miranda unknowingly suffered a mild heart attack while performing during the taping of an episode of The Jimmy Durante Show. She finished the show but died the following morning after suffering a second heart attack.
Carmen Miranda, (Marco de Canaveses, 9 de fevereiro de 1909 — Los Angeles, 5 de agosto de 1955), mais conhecida como Carmen Miranda, foi uma cantora e atriz luso-brasileira. Sua carreira artística transcorreu no Brasil e Estados Unidos entre as décadas de 1930 e 1950. Trabalhou no rádio, no teatro de revista, no cinema e na televisão. Chegou a receber o maior salário até então pago a uma mulher nos Estados Unidos. Seu estilo eclético faz com que seja considerada precursora do tropicalismo, movimento cultural brasileiro surgido no final da década de 1960.

FROM VIRTUAL TO REAL... DO VIRTUAL PARA O REAL...

Eduardo P. Lunardelli, is a painter and sculptor very talented and a blogger of many blogs (he has 46 blogs). His first and main blog, "Varal de Idéias", was created in 2006 and since then, it has been many readers and much success. "Varal de Idéias" means in English "Clothesline of Ideas", where he focuses mainly artistics themes: painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, photography, and son on. Now, Eduardo had an original and inspired idea to write a book, - "o último blog e outras blogagens" ("the last blog and others bloggings") - about one of his blog named "O Último Blog" (The Last Blog"). In a well-written book, his experiences, knowledge and thoughts were presented in an agreeable and amusing text. I think that the transposition from the "virtual" to the "real" it was not an easy task, but Eduardo had plain success! In a beautifully edition, the book has an attractive cover, created by Paula Marmontel Leite do Canto, Eduardo's wife, displaying an expressive caricature of the author, created by Roque Sponholz. The beautiful Foreword and back cover were written by Eduardo's friend, the writer and also blogger from Portugal, Jorge Pinheiro. The book jacket was written by another friend, writer and blogger, Luis Bento and the four cover has a beautiful painting by the painter and author's friend, Vincenzo Scarpellini. The structure of the book is amazing because the author interweaves his reflections and opinions with a panel of political, social and cultural issues published on his blog. Moreover, the author gave voice to their readers, through their comments section, in a newsworthy dialogue. I highly recommend the book of my friend Eduardo, "o último blog e outras blogagens". It is really an enjoyable reading, that brings precious information about blogging and the blogosphere.

A orelha do livro foi escrita por outro amigo, escritor e blogueiro Luis Bento e a quarta capa traz uma bela tela do pintor e também amigo Vincenzo Scarpellini. A estrutura do livro é muito interessante porque entrelaça suas reflexões e opiniões de blogueiro experiente com um painel dos acontecimentos políticos, econômicos e culturais relevantes da época, dando também voz aos seus leitores, através de seus comentários, num diálogo bastante estimulante. Recomendo com entusiasmo o livro do meu amigo Eduardo, "o último blog e outras blogagens". Uma prazerosa leitura que trará informações preciosas sobre um tema tão atual, como é o da blogosfera.

OSCAR NIEMEYER (1907- 2012)

Oscar Niemeyer (Rio de Janeiro, 12/15/1907 - Rio de Janeiro, 12/5/2012) is the most famous Brazilian architect and he is considered one of the most important names in International Modern Architecture. Niemeyer was best known for his design of civic buildings for Brasília, capital of the country since 1960. Oscar Niemeyer (Rio de Janeiro, 15/12/1907 - Rio de Janeiro, 5/12/2012) é um dos mais famosos arquitetos brasileiros, considerado também um dos mais importantes nomes da Moderna Arquitetura Internacional. Seus trabalhos mais conhecidos são os dos edifícios públicos que projetou para a cidade de Brasília, capital do país desde 1960.

Amazing facts:
1) The building name was inspired by a Mayan Temple in Honduras. O nome do edifpicio foi inspirado pelo Templo Maia em Honduras.
2) The condominium has 107 employees to serve and maintain the building. O condomínio tem 107 empregados para serviços e manutenção.
3) Due to the large number of residents, the city hall gave the building its own ZIP code. Dado o grande número de moradores, o prédio tem um CEP especial.
4) According to IBGE, (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), a major research institute in Brazil, the building has a larger population than 547 cities in the country. De acordo com o IBGE, o edifício tem uma população maior do que 547 cidades no país. (via Emporis Buildings)

My son gifted me with this beautiful lily, a Lillium "Stargazer", a hybrid lily of the Oriental group. Oriental lilies are known for their fragrant perfume and they are gorgeous!

Meu filho me presenteou com este lindo lírio Oriental, o Lillium "Stargazer". Os lírios orientais têm um perfume bem intenso e são lindos!
