Ipê-amarelo (Yellow Ipê), in English known as Golden Trumpet Tree. Scientific name, Tabebuia chrysotricha and Tabebuia Alba is a neotropical genus of about 100 species of large shrubs and trees in the tribe Tecomeae of the family Bignoniaceae, original from Brazil. This beautiful tree can arrive to 25 feet of height. During the winter, the leaves of the "Ipê Amarelo" fall and the tree becomes completely naked. Species in this genus are important as ornamentals plant in parks and gardens, as well as in the lining of streets, because of their showy flowers.

Hi Sonia!
ReplyDeleteThis is a truly gorgeous tree!
I looked at a picture of a single bloom, and as far as I can remember, I think I've never seen one (I wonder if the semi-tropical climate of Washington DC was still to cold for this tree, or maybe I mistook a smaller shrub for a Rhododendron).
I see that you are reading "Extinction" by Thomas Bernhard. How do you like it? His "Wittgenstein's Nephew" is one of my favorite books. How's Nora Ephram's story collection coming along?
Sunny greetings from Vienna!
Thanks for the visit and gentle words, Merisi!
ReplyDeleteI like so much Thomas Bernhard. He is a great author, to me. Bernhard's style and his sentences are serpentive and complex, and the flow of the text it's very amazing and awesome. He is very iconoclast and acid too. I have beeing reading many of his works. My reading is in Portuguese, of course. I like “Kalte” (in Portuguese, O Náufrago), Wittgenstein's Nephew (O Sobrinho de Wittgenstein) ; Disturbance (Perturbação); Cutting Timber: An Irritation, (Árvores abatidas) and Extintion (Extinção). When I like an author I try to read all his works.
About Nora Ephron's story: it’s a short work, but it is very funny and witty, worth read it.
Have a nice Sunday!
This tree is just breathtaking ! I scrolled a little through your blog, I have been so busy lately with the Cyber Cruise (did you follow that ?) It was so interesting to read about all these cities and countries where we "stopped" The ball was just the end of it.
ReplyDeleteThere are maybe some interesting posts for you to read, about my hometown and also Brussels. I had put it in my main blog, because the Countries & Cities I only use for special stuff. My main blog is Writer Cramps.
We have unusual warm weather here in the Northern countries and in the southern it's cool and it rains. We had today 28°C which has never happened since the weatherforecast was created !
That tree is exquisite, Sonia!
ReplyDeleteStunning. The tree looks so big and majestetic!
ReplyDeleteLike that second shot. The contrast between the tree and the sky is excellent!
ReplyDeleteNa noite tudo se perde nos labirintos do silêncio...mas é na noite que acontece a magia, a dança da paixão da eterna maresia...

What a wonderful GOLDEN color :) Love your 'freshness post as well...I can just imagine sitting under just letting my thoughts flow. Now, do your yellow bloom all the time or is it seasonal?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree!!! Wish it would grow in our neck of the woods!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I know why you wanted to post large photos! That tree is gorgeous! Our trees never look as vibrant and glorious at this one. Our trees usually show pastel flowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the view, Sonia!
Thanks Paula for your visiting and nice compliment. Sure, this flowers are seasonal. Species in this genus are important as timber trees and also as ornamentals because of their showy flowers. Many flower on leafless stems at the end of the dry season, making the floral display more conspicuous.
