The Bookshelf Project is a great blog and I am glad I had my bookshelf posted on the Malena's blog. You can see my bookshelf click Here .
The Bookshelf Project é um blog excelente e eu fiquei muito contente por ter tido fotos de minhas estantes publicadas no blog da Malena. Você pode ver as fotos das minhas estantes clicando Aqui.
Malena wrote: "The Bookshelf Project celebrates books and our intimate relationship with them. Bookshelves are often much more than a storage space. They are shrines that give us constant stability where ever and whatever life throws at us. They are our personal and collective link with past. The Bookshelf Project intends to integrate photographs of private and personal bookshelves into a visual and spiritual Library that belongs to all of us. My aim is to capture a period of time that might soon be extinct. We might be the last generation to know books in their current shape and form. Our bookshelves represent our beliefs and mirror our feelings about the world in which we live. The photographs I’ve already received reassured me that I am on the right track and that together we can build a virtual library of our lives that will bring little pleasures to us that we can revisit again and again. I am hoping that the Bookshelf Project will eventually become a printed book, filled with loving words and photographs made by book lovers and connoisseurs."

Quotes I like:
"The greatest gift is a passion for reading. It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you the knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is a moral illumination." - Elizabeth Hardwick , US writer (1916 -2007 )
"Some books are undeservedly forgotten; none are undeservedly remembered." W. H. Auden - US (English-born) critic & poet (1907-1973)
“If there's a book you really want to read but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it” - Toni Morrison - American Writer, Teacher and Editor. (1931- )
“A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted. You should live several lives while reading it.” - William Styron - American Writer and Novelist - (1925-2006)

BOOKS ABOUT ANIMALS AND NATURAL WORLD

So are these YOUR bookshelves Sonia? I enlarged the pictures (of course) but could only make out the books on Greece. Is that one of your favourite countries? I like it a lot too. The mythology, style, colours. It was the very first country I visited in Europe! Hmmm. I wonder if all those yellow bindings are national geographic magazines.
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend has better weather than ours. STILL raining after more than 10 days. Sigh.

You have a wonderful library! It must be fun to curl up with a favorite book in that space you provided. If we lose the physical books, we will have lost an essential part of humanity. Here is my very favorite book quote, one I truly love:
ReplyDelete"When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes" - Erasmus
Most of us bloggers are in love with books and you have captured that love so well!
ReplyDeleteI love books and reading. I have to admit that lately I've been reading a lot of books on my Nook, as there are thousands of classic books, biographies, and things like that available for free. There's something amazing about carrying the every Charles Dickens book around with you, as well as biographies of most of the famous composers, and a hundred old science fiction books, all on something not much larger than a single book!
ReplyDeleteI like your bookshelves. Have a great weekend!
This brings back such memories of all those years ago and your very own 'book project'. What fun that was, Sonia....And what a great time I had poring over my books and delving into all that they mean to me...
ReplyDeleteThis current Book Ptoject sounds wonderful---I will have to check it out, my dear....!
Lovely to see your Bookshelves once again.
There are many windows to the soul, and bookshelves are one. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love my bookcases too, but more and more, I'm reading books on my Kindle.
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of books!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you love them all!
Happy weekend!
Kisses and hugs

It looks like you need higher shelves pretty soon... :-)
ReplyDeleteMine are boxed right now waiting for a new home... and new ones are already piling up...
What a good idea.... posting pictures of your bookshelf! I really love books, I go to the library every couple of weeks for some new books to read. There is always a pile of books on my bedside table. Maybe I should post a picture of my books too.
ReplyDeleteI love books. People keep throwing them out and I sort through them and find gems such as The Mute Stones Speak ..archaeology in Italy..fascinating book. Have a great day and week Sonia and thank you for sharing.

ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, Sonia!
AWWW, I've been away from blogland and I come back and since your blog is one of my favorites...and what do I find? BOOK SHELVES!!! I want to 'join' in the discussion and sharing! (and will shortly!) Now to go look at your great links! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI took your advice and posted a picture of my bookshelves. There are more books too... but I just took photos of the most interesting ones! Thank you for sending the link to Naomi's bookshelves.... incredible!
ReplyDeleteYou can tell you treat your books with reverence, Sonia. The room is like a temple. Just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHi Sonia, you've made me want to photograph my bookshelves! I wonder if they'll be extinct in the next generation? The reason we bought our city house was because I fell in love with the floor to ceiling cherry bookcases!
ReplyDeleteI love your bookshelves. I am able to read books on my electronic tablet but I still prefer to read a paper book!
