QUIZ: PLANTS AND ANIMALS

I founded on Google the name of the unfamiliar plant. It is Aristolochia gigantea, an ornamental plant, a tropical vine which is native to Brazil. It's popular name is Brazilian Dutchman's Pipe, Giant Pelican Flower.


Descobri no Google o nome da planta que eu desconhecia. É uma trepadeira nativa do Brasil, Aristolochia gigantea, conhecida popularmente como Papo-de-peru, papo-de-peru-grande, papo-de-peru-babada, mil-homens, jarra-açu, aristolóquia, jarrinha, cipó-mil-homens.

    ALL Fascinating and ALL plants and animals whch are completely unfamiliar to me ....WOW!
    Each one is like a piece of "ART", Sonia.....How you find these things is a miracle. And you have such an eye for Beauty...It is just simply WONDERFUL!

    How very interesting Sonia! I loved seeing these, but I must say that the star nosed mole is rather creepy looking so close up like that. I got a few shivers down my spine looking at him so close like that!! I have seen moles but never a star nosed one. All the others were new to me.

    Loved this post!!! I learn so much from you!!

    Is that one of those puffer fish?, starnose mole, my fav an Okapi (I love them! seen them at the San Diego zoo!), and something like a marmot (on the rock) stumped by the other...and the plants? Oh, you have me stumped on them! yet another wonderful post!!!!!

    About the plant I do not know its name but I already saw some in Martinique Island. The same for the porcupinefish.

    Sonia, que interessante, de todas estas plantas e animais eu só tinha ouvido falar do okapi (por sair sempre nas palavras cruzadas rs). Das plantas gostei do durião, deve parecer com a jaca até no cheiro, se é até proibido nos hotéis. Entre os animais meu preferido foi a toupeira-nariz-de-estrela. Não tenho idéia do nome do vegetal que você perguntou.
    As fotos estão lindas a apresentação levando aos links explicativos primorosa, parabéns.

    Muito interessante as plantas e os animais que eu não conhecia.
    A planta da qual voce se refere, não me é estranha mas não consegui nada dela nem no Google.
    Tenho certeza de que ja ví em em algum lugar.
    A princípio pensei estar relacionada com a flor do maracujá mas, não encontrei nada. Estou curiosa.
    Será alguma trepadeira?

    Another great post Sonia!
    I love the diversity of your posts - you always find something interesting to write about.

    I knew all the plants (except the last one)!
    We have a lot of Asian fruits in Australia- that's why I knew the dragon fruit, durian (as the Indonesians say "stinks like hell, tastes like heaven") and the lotus.
    And I saw the weird lemon at the plant nursery the other day.


    And that first animal is incredible!!
    I never knew such a creature existed!
    I'm amazed that I can still come across animals I have never heard of before - the natural world is full of surprises!
    And a Numbat!!!
    An Australian animal!
    The introduced animals like foxes and rabbits do terrible things to their survival rate.
    I don't think I have ever seen one in real life.
    And the Hyrax looks a lot like our Quoll but without the tail.

    Sonia que interessantíssima pesquisa vc fez aqui..Das frutas só conhencia a Pitaia...a flor de lotus ilustra o blog da minha filha e é uma de suas flores preferidas...mas não reconheci sem as folhas...tadinha da toupeira que FEIA...parece deformada...O papo do perú quase parece uma orquídea gigante...enfim maravilhas de nossa complexa natureza..parabéns muito diferente...beijos e um ótimo fim de semana

    #1 - Dragon fruit. I saw a lot of those when I went to Malaysia and Singapore last summer.

    #2 - Lotus pods with seeds.

    #3 - Durian from South East Asia.

    #4 - It's called Buddha's Fingers or something like that. I've seen it on TV or magazines.

    #5 - I read your posts backwards so I just learned what it is. Never seen it before.
